Singapore, 20 August 2024 – Asia Carbon Institute (ACI) announces a significant upgrade of its ACI Registry for the accounting of a-Carbon Credits (aCCs). The revamped registry, which is provided and supported by its partner, the EcoRegistry, is a block-chain based platform to track the creation, ownership, transfer, distribution, retirement and/or offsetting of aCCs under the ACI Program. The new Registry further assures the transparency, integrity, and effectiveness of global efforts to mitigate climate change.

The ACI Registry is a secure, digitalised management reporting and verification (DMRV) enabled, user-friendly database that facilitates the issuance, tracking, and retirement of a-Carbon Credits. The ACI Registry provides comprehensive information about each GHG mitigation project, including project documents, methodology(ies) and other relevant reports on the GHG emissions reductions/removals. The dashboard of the project information will be constantly reviewed and can be easily customised in alignment with the best practices and requirement of the carbon market. The whole update will provide more seamless and enhanced user experience for project proponents and validation/verification bodies (VVBs).

One of the key functions of the revamped ACI Registry is to ensure the avoidance of double-counting of carbon credits. A unique serial number for each ACI’s a-Carbon Credit in the ACI Registry will prevent double counting of carbon credits issued under the Program. ACI also collaborates with other GHG programs or registries, in both voluntary and compliance carbon markets, sharing data and performing checks to avoid double issuance, trading, or retirement of credits across globally recognised platforms. In addition, the ACI requires the VVBs to conduct due diligence for each project to ensure no double claiming of the same project from other registries.
