Hong Kong, 30 September 2025 – As part of our mission to assist building the carbon market capacity in the region, Asia Carbon Institute (ACI) recently participated in a capacity building programme in collaboration with the Hong Kong Association for Testing, Inspection and Certification (HKTIC) and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC). We delivered three sessions out of a series of training in related themes, aiming to let stakeholders understand the role of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) in the process of carbon credit certification.

Session Highlights:

15 April 2025 – Raymond Fong, ACI International Expert Panel’s member, conducted a lecture on “Science-based Targets toward Carbon Neutrality”. He explained the rationale and fundamentals behind science-based targets for achieving net-zero goals, outlined the process for setting such targets, and shared real-world examples to illustrate their application.

24 July 2025 – William Chan, Founding Officer of ACI, delivered a presentation on “Impacts and Challenges of Digitalising Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) in the Carbon Credit Market”. He emphasised the importance and challenges for the evolving roles of VVBs under the digitalising MRV world, with the sharing of insights from the ACI’s Digital MRV Pilot Programme.

31 July 2025 – John Lo, Founder of ACI, presented on “Carbon Credits & ACI Standards”, covering the latest developments in the voluntary carbon market and core principles of carbon credit certification and methodology development. Participants engaged in an interactive case study simulating the role of a carbon crediting programme.

The overall training programme was well received, with over 120 participants from various sectors attending the sessions. The series provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the latest standards and regulations governing the voluntary carbon market and enhanced their practical competencies in carbon auditing.

ACI is highly committed to strengthening stakeholder capacity and nurturing carbon talents in the region. We will continue to contribute to this area by collaborating with various partners in organising training courses and seminars.
