Highlight of the news:
John Lo, Founder of Asia Carbon Institute, asserts that carbon credits function as economic incentives rather than taxes and argues that Thailand is well positioned to become a centre for Asia’s voluntary carbon market. He highlights Thailand’s strengths in its Bio-Circular-Green economic model, clean manufacturing, and blue carbon opportunities along its extensive coastline, while advocating for an “In Asia, For Asia” approach supported by transparent, technology-enabled project monitoring to address greenwashing concerns.
Lo also urges Thai businesses to urgently develop robust Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions measurement capabilities, noting ACI’s collaboration with Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency to advance credible carbon standards across the region.
