The Asia Carbon Institute (ACI), a new carbon standards organization based in Singapore, has been launched to address the need for urban and tech-based carbon projects in Asia. While most standard-setters in the carbon market are in Europe and the United States, ACI aims to fill the gap in East Asia. The organization will focus on projects such as carbon capture and storage, as well as direct air capture of greenhouse gases. Other areas of focus include waste management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and nature-based solutions.
ACI aims to train subject matter experts, develop new rulebooks for projects, and calculate emission savings in niche areas. The organization plans to have up to 100 projects listed in its registry within a year. ACI is committed to transparency and will make project documents and methodologies available to the public. It is also seeking to become a member of CAD Trust, a global data platform for carbon registries.
