In order to mitigate the effects of climate change, it is crucial for Asia to adopt sustainable technologies and practices that reduce GHG emissions and promote sustainable development. One way to incentivise the adoption of sustainable practices in Asia is through the use of voluntary carbon credits and registries. While there are many types of GHG reduction projects that can generate carbon credits, technology-based and urban-based projects are particularly relevant for Asia. The promotion of voluntary carbon credits and registry in the region to support technology-based and urban-based GHG reduction projects can play a critical role in promoting and advancing sustainable and environmentally friendly development in Asia.

The ACI is dedicated to driving climate action by providing a trusted, transparent, and robust platform for the issuance, trade, and retirement of voluntary carbon credits. By adhering to high standards and stringent processes, the ACI can ensure the integrity of carbon credits generated from registered GHG mitigation projects.

Technology based solutions

Technology-based projects, such as direct air capture (DAC), renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, can help to reduce GHG emissions from the region’s rapidly growing energy sector. In addition, in most cases of energy efficiency projects, such as industrial process improvements not only can help to reduce or even avoid GHG emissions, but also have a positive impact on water consumption and pollution reduction.

Urban based solutions

Urban-based large scale carbon reduction projects, such as mass transportation, electric vehicles, carbon sequestration in concrete and green construction projects, can help to reduce GHG emissions in the process of urbanisation, as well as promoting sustainable urban development. On the other hand, local city scale waste management projects, such as composting and recycling programs and landfill gas mitigation can not only help to reduce GHG emissions from landfills, but also impact our environment at local community.
